An old biology professor of mine related a hilarious story about plagiarism that he caught from one of his students. The class was supposed to write a research paper. One of the students turned in a paper that was borderline incoherent, with seemingly random sentences that barely stuck to the subject of the paper.

This confused my professor. Coincidentally, he had a doctor's appointment about that time. One of the magazines in the waiting room was an issue of National Geographic. As it turned out, the student had plagiarized *every other sentence* from an article in that issue. That student was so bad at plagiarizing that not only did he steal someone else's work, he did not even verify that what he turned in was minimally coherent.
