I used to get that from my parents all the time. These are real examples:

Me: "Dad, I just bought my first new car!"

Dad: "I guess everyone needs to make that mistake once."

One day right after I got a shower, my Mom glared at me and said, "I hate your hair like that!"

I said, "What? Wet? It'll dry."

Every conversation with them was like that. Always finding fault, even in the most trivial places.
