It took me years to even figure out how toxic my parents really were. It messes with your head when the person who is abusing you the worst is doing it under a flag of “love”. Cutting off all contact made a world of difference. They went through a period of stalking and harassment as they tried to bring me back into the fold. Once that was past, I couldn’t ever imagine reconnecting with them.
