Reflecting on just how imperceptible the gradual increase of his abusive behavior was to me, I’m reminded of the parable about the frog in the pot; if you drop a frog in a moderately hot pot of water it will immediately jump out, but if you place a frog in a lukewarm pot of water and slowly increase the temperature until it is boiling the frog will be cooked to death because it is unable to detect the slow rise in the temperature of the water.

My parents are extreme narcissists, especially my Dad. I never knew how bad it was until I got out of that environment and saw how normal people live. Hell only looks like Hell if you know there's something better out there. I haven't talked to them in 20 years and don't miss them at all. Best wishes.
