No kidding. I spent too many years in retail, with a gaslighting corporate office spewing that "customer is always right" crap at me. We were required to provide refunds to known thieves for product we knew they had stolen, rather than risk offending a "customer." Honestly, my position was, if the thief gets offended and takes his "business" elsewhere, all the better!
