This is true. I usually stay out of discussions of race/gender. As a white cis male, that can be a bit of a minefield. That being said, I also studied psychology in college and graduate school. I'm not a clinician, but I did take the standard coursework in social psychology.

One of the consistently disturbing things in Western society is the infantilization of women. One of the worst insults you can fling at a man is to call him a girl or a lady. You don't hear women insulted by being called boys.

This implicit denigration of women, to the extent that even being accused of being one is insulting to men, is truly disgusting. It gets worse when you see women who have bought into this cultural norm.

When I was in 7th grade, I had left the classroom for a few minutes. That teacher hated me. As soon as I returned to class, the teacher made an off-the-cuff request for all the girls in the class to please stand up. They complied. The only people standing were the girls, and me. Everyone laughed, and the teacher, an older woman, just gave me an evil glare and a nasty smirk. She called me a girl just to humiliate me.

The sad thing is, she was really humiliating herself and every girl in the class by reinforcing that norm of female inferiority. That kind of implicit gender superiority really needs to end.

Best Wishes.
